The Phone Call
After years of frustration and fruitless attempts at trying to make a viable living playing professional women’s hockey, Kendall knew she needed to be bold.
Were it not for her out-of-the-box bravery and risk-taking, she might never have become a leading force in the formation of a new women’s professional sports league.
It all started with a phone call in March 2019 to Billie Jean King. The call was taken by Ilana Kloss, King’s business and life partner, while she and King were attending a Los Angeles Lakers game. Kloss, trying to avoid the background noise, stepped into a hallway to take the call.
“The call turned into a million calls and millions of dollars in investment.”

Puck Drop
This partnership with King and Kloss led to a five year journey and the first puck drop for the Professional Women’s Hockey League on January 1st, 2024. Kendall was selected as one of the first free agents signed by the Minnesota Frost, one of the league’s inaugural teams.
Kendall was named captain of the Frost and returned to the ice for the inaugural season of the newly formed league just months after giving birth to her first child, her son, Drew.
In its debut year, the PWHL took the sports world by storm, shattering attendance records across North America. It was only fitting that the historic season concluded with Kendall and the Frost hoisting the first-ever Walter Cup.

Back for More
The league returned for its second season in 2025, where Kendall and the Frost successfully defended their title to capture back-to-back Walter Cup championships. Now, as they head into the 2025–26 season, Kendall and the Frost look to build on their success in what promises to be an exciting year for the PWHL, with two new expansion teams joining the league in Seattle and Vancouver.
